Meet the judges
JBE 2018 promises to be a great event. And, along with outstanding prizes, we have two out standing judges.
Market & Showmanship Judge
Owen Macfarlane grew up on a large purebred seedstock operation, where his passion for the livestock industry developed. Throughout his youth, he raised and marketed steers and heifers to junior exhibitors while campaigning his own breeding stock at the local state and national levels. After high school, Owen began his collegiate livestock judging career at Redlands College in EL Reno, Oklahoma, where after a tremendous amount of hard work and success, Including High team honors in both Kansas City and Louisville, his team was named the 2013 National Team of the year. After Junior College Owen pursued his judging career at Texas A&M University where there were multiple team and individual accomplishments including High Individual Overall at the 2015 Houston Livestock Show. Currently Owen has been serving as the Assistant Livestock Judging Coach at Texas A&M as he works toward his Masters in Animal Science. As a coach Owen has been honored to be a part of the 2016 Champion team at the American Royal Livestock Show, as well as the Champion Team at the 2017 National Western Stock Show in Denver Colorado and State Fair of Texas.
Breeding Heifer Judge
Chad Holtkamp is a West Point, Iowa native. Chad owns and operates Holtkamp Cattle Co which specializes in diverse breeds and has produced champions at the State and National levels. Chad has judged cattle shows in several states at the local, state and national level. He received his Associate of Science degree from Black Hawk College East in Kewanee, Illinois and his BS degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. Chad was a member of the 1989 OSU National Champion judging team. Chad and his wife Kim have two children, Skyler and Dacota.
