Showmanship and Market - Scott Werning, Emery, SD
Scott and his family operate Werning Cattle Company-W/C in the hills of the James River Valley near Emery, South Dakota. Scott is a 2006 graduate of South Dakota State University where he was a member of the 2005 Livestock Judging Team and the 2005 National Meat Animal Evaluation Team. At the National Contest, Scott placed 2nd in Cattle and 1st in Cattle Reasons. He was also High Point Individual at the 2005 National Meat Animal Evaluation Contest. After college, Scott worked for Cargill Animal Nutrition before returning to the ranch in 2009.
The Werning family runs 500 Simmental, Angus, and SimAngus cows along with two embryo transplant cooperator herds. In 2019, W/C marketed approximately 225 bulls, 100 bred heifers and a handful of select show heifers. 2020 marked their 39th Annual Production Sale held at the ranch on Tuesday, February 11th. Scott and his wife Ashley have two children, son Creighten (9), and daughter Thatcher (5).
Breeding Heifers – Jim Bloomberg, Berwick, IL
Jim is returning from last year. He is an Illinois native and his family raises primarily Simmentals, Herefords and Angus. Jim has judged cattle shows in several states at the local, state, and national level serving as an official for shows in Louisville, Kansas City, Denver, Fort Worth and Houston. Jim as his wife, Mary, have been married for 35 years. They have three children, Blake, Jamie and Jake who all exhibited numerous breed champions at junior shows across the country.
